March 9, 2007 - March 17, 2007
Day 1 Friday, March 9 - Departure

Departure at 5:00 p.m. from Washington Dulles airport for Rome, Italy, via Paris on Air France. Arrival at noon on Saturday.

Day 2 Saturday, March 10 - Rome

Upon arrival in Rome, transfer to Hotel Diana, a four-star hotel conveniently located close to the Termini Railway Station. In the afternoon we’ll stroll through the city and visit the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, and Piazza Navona.

Day 3 Sunday, March 11 - Rome
Explore Ancient Rome: the Forum, the Colosseum, the Palatine Hill, and the Pantheon. In the afternoon, if interested, visit the National Museum of Rome (the greatest collection of ancient Roman art). Night walk across Rome starting at Campo de’ Fiori.
Day 4 Monday, March 12 - Rome

Early morning start to go to the Vatican, visit the Vatican Museum collection, the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica. Optional four-hour guided tour is available. Free afternoon.

Day 5 Tuesday, March 13 - Rome or optional day trip to Florence

Optional excursion by train to Florence. We’ll visit the Uffizzi Gallery and the Academy (timed tickets to museums are included), the Ponte Vecchio bridge over the Arno river, the Cathedral, Baptistery, and Campanile. We’ll return to Rome late that evening.

Day 6 Wednesday, March 14 - Rome

Villa Borghese (Rome’s Central Park) and visit the recently restored Borghese Gallery (one of Europe’s most sumptuous art experiences). Reservations are mandatory several days in advance. Free afternoon.

Day 7 Thursday, March 15 - Optional excursion to Naples and Pompeii
Optional full-day excursion to Naples and Pompeii by train. We’ll visit the renowned Archaeological Museum in Naples, eat pizza in the city where it was born, stroll the streets of this living medieval city and then take a local train to Pompeii for a guided tour of its famous ruins at the foot of Mount Vesuvius. Return by train to Rome late that evening.
Day 8 Friday, March 16 - Rome
Enjoy a leisure day in Rome exploring its churches, Ostia Antica, the Catacombs, or Trastevere neighborhood across the river. A day for relaxing or last minute shopping as well.
Day 9 Saturday, March 17 - Return
Transfer to Fiumicino Airport for our return flight to Dulles via Paris. Departure at noon, arrival in Washington at 8:00 p.m.

Cost information for the Rome trip

The price for the Rome trip - from $1,399

The Price Includes:

  • Air France flights from Dulles airport via Paris
  • Airport taxes and fuel surcharge @ approximately $200, subject to adjustment at time of ticketing
  • Seven night hotel accommodation, double occupancy, Hotel Diana, a four-star hotel in Rome.
  • Breakfast daily.
  • Airport/hotel/airport transfers on arrival and departure.
  • Tuition for up to 3 credits for full-time students at any Penn State campus.
  • Guidance and academic supervision by Dr. Cecilia Heydl-Cortinez, associate professor of Spanish at Penn State York

The Price Does Not Include:

  • Single room supplement
  • Optional excursions
  • Meals other than breakfast
  • Public transportation
  • Cost of personal items: phone, drinks, laundry, etc.
  • Entrance tickets to museums unless specified as part of the optional tour.
  • Optional travel insurance
  • Transportation to Dulles Airport
  • Passport & visa fee
  • Everyone needs a valid passport. In case you are not an American citizen a visa may be required.

Full day to Florence. The price of $125 includes r/t train fare and timed entrance tickets to the Uffizzi Gallery and the Academia Gallery.

Full day to Naples and Pompeii. The price of $100 includes train fare and a guided tour of the Pompeii ruins.

A more convenient way to visit the Vatican and avoid long lines is with a pre-paid guided tour (four hours) early in the morning. Price for this tour is forthcoming.

This trip is open to all Penn State students, faculty, staff, family and friends.

Terms and Conditions

Celestial Voyagers¹ terms depend on contracts with Air France and the hotels. Regulations below must be strictly enforced.
All cancellations must be received in writing.
Following penalties will apply:

  • Deposit: $150 nonrefundable processing fee on all orders is due prior to November 17, 2006
  • Final payment: due January 19, 2007, at the latest.
  • Late fee: $100 +, applicable for registration and/or balance payments received January 20, 2007 or later.

All cancellations must be received in writing. We strongly recommend that you avail yourself with travel insurance as a protection against these penalties. Please, check with Celestial Voyagers for travel insurance plans and premiums.
Following penalties will apply:

  • 50 percent of total price for cancellations January 20 -  February 1, 2007
  • 100 percent of total price for cancellations on February 2, 2007, or later.
