Chase McGowan named 2010 Academic All-American

The 2009-10 Penn State York men’s basketball team enjoyed another championship season by capturing a share of the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) southern division crown with a 9-6 record. This years’ team had only one returning player, Eric Aspril, from the previous years “Final Four” team.

The season began with nine of their first ten games on the road. In addition, the Penn State York Lions were facing what would be perhaps the toughest non-league schedule in school history. Led by United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Academic All–American Chase McGowan, the Lions were able to spring upsets over local NCAA Division 3 opponents Messiah College and Dickinson University. McGowan averaged just less than 16 points per game and pulled down 6 rebounds per contest. The lions look forward to next season, as they will return at least six members of the 2009-10 roster. Along with McGowan, the team will look for leadership from Josh Czerski who was a PSUAC second team all-league player that will return at the guard position. This years most improved player was freshman Xavier Smith, who has a knack for finding the ball and is a quick leaper. With the help of some talented recruits for the 2010-11 season the Lions will look to continue their success next season.
